INTROS-AUTO
CONDITION MONITORING SYSTEM
STEEL WIRE ROPES
Based on the INTROS MRT flaw detector
Perfected for Hazardous Machinery
Fully automated for operation

About us

INTRON PLUS was founded in 1988
Over the past 30 years we have:
  • sold more than 2000 NDT equipment
  • to more than 200 customers
  • in more than 70 countries and
  • inspected over 100 000 km of ropes.
THE INTROS-AUTO
Bespoke Magnetic Head - tailored to the application

Universal Control & Display Unit - simple to operate

Applications
Metallurgy
Ladle crane ropes
Drilling
Calf lines travelling at high speeds
Lifting
Personnel elevator ropes
Offshore
Heave compensation systems
Mining
Conveyor belt driving system
Rope ways
Hauling ropes
Features
Bespoke system
Designed for the machinery, tailored to the rope.
Unhindered operation
Plan inspections when necessary. At the end of every shift or cycle.
Accuracy &
Precision
Calibrated once for lifetime operation.
Extended Rope Lifetime
Discard only when rope's condition is critical, not before.
Automated Data Interpretation
Human factor risk fully negated. Human factor time fully negated. Results prompt in real-time.
Our Comprehensive Support
Training, service and consultation to compose the optimal inspection and rope replacement schedule.
MRT procedure
1
Organisation
Equipment is always on site.

No gate passes, no permits, no inspection contracts.
2
Setup
Equipment is installed and ready to use.

No unpacking, no access considerations, no interruptions.
3
Calibration
Equipment is already calibrated.
4
Verification
Done instantly, no need to wait for PC upload.
5
Data analysis
Automatically, no need to view traces.
6
Report
Done instantly. "Traffic light" indication.
Case study
Severstal Mill
Ladle cranes
Ropes subjected to cyclic loads and extensive heat during pouring cycles.
After installation
Running time of a single rope was ultimately
increased from 1200 to 1700 production cycles.
4% LMA at 1200 cycles
When the nominal service life ended, it was found that ropes only had 4% LMA.
6% LMA at 1500 cycles
Only at 1500 was LMA at ISO 4309 discard level.
7% LMA at 1700 cycles
Only at 7.5 % was the rope safety factor below design standard.
In just three years the purchase became an investment
Extended service life, no interruption for inspection, reduced insurance costs.
0 accidents
Just to remind everyone why we do this.
Case study
Yamal Drilling Rigs
Calf lines
Frequent failures.
Cut and slip procedures did not relate to rope condition.
After installation
Having supplied more than 9 units to various drilling companies we have found
No production interruption
Previously it took up to 1-1.5 hours for a visual inspection of a calf line rope.
Managed Service
Cut and slip operations are now done as required.
0 accidents
No comments required.
What makes INTROS-AUTO different from conventional INTROS?
INTROS-AUTO is a bespoke MRT system to monitor ropes used in hazardous machinery.

INTROS is universal MRT instrument designed for NDT of any wire ropes.
Does the INTROS-AUTO require training and calibration?
INTROS-AUTO is designed to relieve the Customer of all operations.

Equipment is calibrated by us during commissioning and personnel are trained how to record measurements and clean the magnetic head.
Can the INTROS-AUTO be used for a several ropes?
Provided that the ropes are of identical diameter and construction.
How much does the INTROS-AUTO cost?
Costs are subjective to the Customer requirements.

Generally the equipment price will be more expensive than the respective INTROS.

Operating costs and the overall economy, make purchasing expenditures an investment (see case studies above).

Nature of industrial installation
Drilling rig, crane, ropeway, mine, offshore platform. If it is a specific model, then please specify it.
Rope parameters
For automatic data interpretation, we need to program the necessary discard criteria into the Control and Display Unit (CDU).
Length
The cyclic memory of the CDU allows up to 35 kilometres to be recorded.
What speed does the rope travel at? Is it continuous?
INTROS-AUTO can measure up to 7 m/s, but the speed must be continuous.
Continuous or periodic monitoring?
Will the Magnetic Head be removed from the rope or is it to remain there for the duration of the rope's lifetime?
How far is the control room from the rope?
The standard CDU - MH cable length is 80 metres, we can make it up to 120 metres long if necessary.
What are the operating conditions?
The INTROS-AUTO is set to operate from -40 to +50 degrees Celsius, has IP67 ingress protection. If spark-resistant circuitry is and any other special operating conditions should also be specified.
What are the power supply parameters?
CDU requires 12 V DC, but we need to know what adapter to supply to local power conditions (127, 220, 380 VAC etc.).
